The rules of the road.
For using this website. The expedition itself is governed by a separate booking agreement signed at the time of booking. Last updated 18 May 2026.
What this site is
myadventurecostarica.com is the marketing and inquiry website for My Adventure Costa Rica, operated by Esteban Umaña Pérez from San José, Costa Rica. The site presents our expeditions, accepts inquiries, and links to our booking partner WeTravel for the purchase of expedition places.
Using this site means you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Inquiries are not bookings
Submitting an inquiry through the bespoke or school proposal form is the start of a conversation. It does not create a booking, a contract, or any obligation on either side. A booking exists only after we have agreed on an itinerary, the deposit has been paid through WeTravel, and you have signed the separate booking agreement we send you.
Bookings, payments, and cancellations
Expedition bookings are processed by our partner WeTravel. Their terms cover payment, refunds at the platform level, and dispute resolution.
Our own cancellation and refund policy is summarized on each expedition page. As a general rule: deposits are refundable up to 90 days before departure; the final balance is due 60 days before departure; cancellations within 60 days are subject to a portion of the trip cost; comprehensive travel insurance covers most cancellation scenarios and is required for participation.
For bespoke private trips and school programs, cancellation terms are set out in the specific agreement we sign with you. Those terms take precedence over the summary on this site.
Travel insurance — required
Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is required for every participant on every expedition we operate. We can arrange a policy through our broker or you may use your own; you must provide proof of coverage before departure. Without insurance, participation is not possible.
Physical demand, risk, and waivers
Our expeditions are physically demanding. Trail running, mountain biking, water sports, and remote travel carry inherent risks even with the best preparation. We mitigate these risks with Wilderness EMT-certified guides, satellite communication, medical kits, established evacuation protocols, and small-group ratios — but the risks cannot be eliminated. By participating, you accept these risks. Every participant signs a separate liability waiver before departure that sets out the risks in detail. If you have a medical condition that might affect your participation, please tell us in advance so we can plan together.
Fitness representations
You are responsible for representing your fitness level honestly during the booking conversation. We design the experience around what you tell us. Mis-representation of fitness can put you, the group, and the operation at risk and may result in our declining to operate the trip without refund of the deposit.
Intellectual property
All content on this site — text, photographs (except those licensed from third parties such as Unsplash, which retain their own licenses), the brand mark, the brand voice, the four-category program framework, and the design — is owned by My Adventure Costa Rica unless otherwise noted. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or use our content for commercial purposes without our written permission. Personal-use sharing — sending a journey page to a friend, quoting a line in a review — is welcomed.
Photography during expeditions
A dedicated photographer is included on most expeditions. Your photography preference is captured at the inquiry stage and confirmed in the booking agreement. We honor it. If your preference is full consent, you may still request review of any specific image before public use; we will accommodate. Photographs of you used in marketing remain our intellectual property as the photographer.
Third-party services
This site uses Formspree (form delivery), WeTravel (bookings), and Vercel (hosting). Their terms of service apply to your use of those services. We do not control them and are not responsible for their operation, although we have chosen them carefully.
User conduct
When you submit a form, please use it in good faith. Spam, abuse, fraudulent inquiries, attempts to test our systems, or any unlawful use are not welcome and may be reported to relevant authorities.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The information on this site is provided in good faith and we make reasonable efforts to keep it accurate. Itineraries, prices, lodge selections, and departure dates may change for operational, weather, safety, or partner reasons. We will always communicate changes that affect a confirmed booking before you incur cost.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability arising from your use of this website (separate from the expedition itself, which is governed by your booking agreement) is limited to the amount you have paid us in connection with the website, which is normally zero.
Force majeure
Neither party is liable for failure to perform caused by events outside reasonable control: natural disasters, pandemics, governmental actions, civil unrest, or similar. In such cases we work with you in good faith to reschedule or refund per the terms of the booking agreement.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Costa Rica. Any dispute arising from them will be resolved in the courts of San José, Costa Rica, unless your home jurisdiction provides you with mandatory consumer-protection rights that cannot be waived — in which case those apply.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will change, and if the update is material we will note it on the site. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the new terms.
